Jenny is a woman of action. She’s driven by an intense search for the truth – others and her own. Jenny speaks for the dead – people with no voice. Vulnerable yet strong, impulsive and self-righteous, controlled yet desiring complete abandon, Jenny is a complex woman who struggles to balance work, single motherhood and love. And like last season, her job as coroner brings her closer to her fascination with death. And closer to life. And promises to uncover her own truths.
This season, Jenny’s got new challenges: her father’s worsening dementia, Ross’ stumble into adulthood, and a worrying new outlet for her anxiety. As the season goes on, Jenny must trust her instincts as her new affliction worsens, threatening her job, her family and her sense of self. If Jenny doesn’t figure this out soon, the consequences could be disastrous.
'Mac’ has been around the block. A 25-year veteran of the police force, he can see through anyone’s bullshit. He approaches each case with a healthy dose of skepticism and realism, while his journey with Jenny brings him closer to the idealism he lost sight of over the years.
This season, we’ll see a different side of Donovan: his baby sister’s impending marriage turns his mind to love. So when he makes a new acquaintance, and their romantic spark grows into a profound connection, Donovan starts to wonder if his bachelor days are over. But as Donovan gets closer to the mysterious Noor, he discovers her involvement in a case, forcing him to make some difficult decisions.
Liam is the soulful army vet who makes his living fixing things. This season, he’s moved out of his treehouse and into Jenny’s house – which means a new stage in their relationship. But as Liam moves away from his solitary life, he’s reunited with an old friend who reminds him of his past, and he’s confronted by his push-and-pull with death.
Jenny’s son Ross has come to terms with his father’s death, and as he turns 18, he’s moving on to the next stage in his life… or is he? Supported by his loving and steadfast boyfriend, Matteo, Ross will grapple with taking his first steps into adulthood and all the mistakes that go along with that.
Jenny’s father Gordon faces new challenges this season as his dementia worsens. When his driver’s license is taken away, he’s forced to accept the loss of his freedom. As Jenny moves closer to danger throughout the season, Gordon will continue to do what he’s always done – try to protect her as best he can.
Alison, Jenny’s down-to-earth, wry, Coroner’s Officer is back from maternity leave this season, and still at the top of her game professionally while solo-parenting a newborn. She balances date nights with her girlfriend Sabina and late-night feedings, and still manages to be totally put together. This season, we’ll delve a little more into Alison’s backstory and what brought her to the Coroner’s office when she finds a personal connection in a case.
Donovan’s right-hand detective, Malik is still desperately seeking approval from his boss. This season, Malik gets more one-on-one time to win over ‘Mac’ but also has a new romantic connection in the office.
River is the Coroner’s Bureau’s Pathologist Assistant. A thoughtful, well-read trans woman well-versed in pop culture, she is key to making the autopsy suite run smoothly, and will show off some more of her many talents this season, as she works alongside Dr. Casey Winter, a new arrival to the Coroner’s office and the team.
Doctor Allen is our resident Pathologist. Intimidated by public speaking, his true strength shines when he’s making his medical discoveries that help Jenny solve the mysterious deaths. He shares a competitive streak with his assistant, River.
A new character this season, Kelly is a survivor of episode one’s tragic fire. She’s lost everything, until she builds a connection with Jenny. As Jenny’s life gets more complicated, Kelly steps in to help, becoming almost a part of the family. But Kelly can't outrun her past, and her tragic loss will come back to haunt her.
Another new addition to the cast, Noor is a capable social worker at first shrouded in mystery. Noor is determined to go above and beyond to help her clients, even when that puts her into conflict with the police, and a certain Detective McAvoy. As the season goes on, Noor’s relationship with Donovan develops into a profound connection. But Noor has something to hide – a secret that can only stay hidden for so long.
