Back Alley’s most recent production is the drama series Coroner for CBC/CW/NBC-U, created by Morwyn Brebner and based on the M.R. Hall UK book series of the same name. Season three is presently airing on CBC in Canada and will air on The CW in the US and on Channel 4 in the UK in 2021.
Back Alley’s previous work includes the recent mystery thriller drama series Bellevue, starring Oscar® winning actress Anna Paquin for CBC/WGN. Before that the company produced the WWII drama series Bomb Girls, which won Outstanding Drama at the 2013 Gracie Awards, was nominated for the prestigious Rockie Award at the Banff Television Festival and was selected as one of ten series for ITV3’s Decade of Great Drama. Bomb Girls was honored with 12 Canadian Screen Award nominations and won 6 including Best Performance by an Actress for star, Oscar® nominated actress Meg Tilly. The series wrapped up with a two-hour MOW in 2014, which won 3 Canadian Screen Awards including Best Dramatic Mini-series or TV Movie.
Back Alley’s other series include the critically acclaimed crime series Durham County, which was billed by the New York Times as “entirely addictive,” and has sold to over a hundred countries internationally. Durham County was recently named “Top Canadian Series of All Time,” in a competition voted on by viewers. Back Alley also produced Played a drama set in the world of undercover police for CTV and Channel 5 in the UK and they created and produced the series Bliss, Straight Up and the first interactive dramatic series in Canada, Drop The Beat, set in the world of hip hop. Mitchell and Lundman won the Production Award for Excellence from Women in Film & Television – Toronto and continue to develop and produce dramatic series.
